On 21 May, TechIsland® and Women in Tech®Cyprus hosted STEM for All — a curated stage at the Doers Summit Limassol — bringing together one of the most important conversations of our time. Not just for engineers or coders. For educators, policymakers, entrepreneurs, parents, and the next generation.
Because AI has already crossed every boundary. Every profession. Every age group. Every country. The question is no longer whether technology will change our lives — it already has. The question is whether every person will have the confidence to shape that change, rather than simply receive it.
STEM is not a career path. It is literacy. And like every literacy before it — it must be accessible to all.
The future isn't something that happens to us. It's something we build.
What followed on the STEM for All stage was a series of honest, thought-provoking conversations: from Cyprus' growth as a tech hub, to its status in the global AI race, to the skills that will define the next decade, to the next generation of STEM talent - our speakers didn't hold back.
Here’s the key takeaways:
The Cyprus government is collaborating with Nvidia to build national AI infrastructure, co-develop research capabilities, and train local AI talent. Plug and Play, the world's largest startup accelerator is now in Cyprus. Cyprus is no longer just watching the innovation race. It's entering it.
Cyprus' tech sector has grown 435% in a decade — the fastest in Europe — and now drives 16% of the country's GDP.
In the age of AI, Cyprus has a real shot at owning the right capability, in the right market, at the right moment — without needing a billion-dollar factory.
Europe has the talent, the market, and the values to lead global innovation. A decade of regulation-first policy has slowed it down. What the continent needs now is one thing: speed.
The most future-proof skill in the AI era isn't technical. It’s the ability to stay curious, think critically, and never stop learning.
Young STEM talent isn't afraid of AI — they grew up with it. For the next generation, AI is the fastest path to doing meaningful work that reaches the world, regardless of where they're from.
The answer to our question?
The future isn't something that happens to us. It's something we build. Not long ago, the idea of Cyprus as a global technology hub was a vision shared by a few determined people. Today, it's a fact.
Our gratitude to our speakers who joined us, shared their insights and made this day interesting.
To everyone who came, stayed, asked questions, and kept the energy alive throughout the day — thank you.
